Governing Documents

Imperial College Union is governed by a small set of important documents, setting out fundamental principles such as our charitable nature, membership, leadership structure, and key partnerships.

Constitution & Bye-laws

The Constitution & Bye-laws of Imperial College Union are the governing documents of the entire organisation.

Partnership Agreements

Our close partnership with Imperial College London is supported through the following agreements:

The Education Act 1994 requires each university and students' union to have a Code of Practice setting out the relationship between the two organisations. We also have a Partnership Agreement and Space Agreement to underpin our collaboration as we improve our members' experience at Imperial, as well as an ongoing funding agreement regarding the annual block grant made by Imperial College London to Imperial College Union.

Freedom of Speech Code of Practice

Imperial College Union is committed to upholding the fundamental right of lawful freedom of speech. All members of our community (including students, staff and invited guests) have the right to freedom of speech within the law, and this Code sets out the reasonable steps we take to ensure all can express their lawful views. The Freedom of Speech Code of Practice applies to all ICU staff, students, honorary or life members, visitors and invited guests, and it sets out how the Union complies with Section A6 of Part A1 of the Higher Education and Research Act (2017) and the additional duties imposed by the Higher Education (Freedom of Speech) Act (2023).
