In a very stereotypical start to this blog, I can’t believe almost a third of this year has already passed. Having joined the full-time party a bit late as I was finishing my Masters, the first stretch of this year felt like playing a bit of catch-up. Turns out there was a lot I didn’t know, and everyday ends up as a learning experience.

A large part of my role remains operational, with lots of emails, forms, and fires that need putting out. It’s been great being in a position where I can help a large range of students and tackle the Union’s issues from the inside out. Alongside the day to day, I’ve started work on my goals. Our Venues Team is finally at full force, with our last two hires starting just last week. We managed to pull off an amazing Welcome Week in October and are already looking forward to Summer Ball, as well as reviewing our event offering overall.

I’ve had the joy of being the Imperial lead on the London Student Sustainability Conference as well as the Union lead on Imperial’s Sustainability week, both kicking off on the 20th of February. Throwing myself into the deep end on sustainability has been wonderful, especially meeting all the student groups invested in these ideas already. I’ll soon be starting my various Forums for student input on Events, Environment & Sustainability, and Services & Facilities, so keep an eye out if you’re interested!

Finally, all our CSPs will be glad to know that work has started on the 22/23 Budgeting System. Our Systems and Activities teams alongside Dylan and I are working hard to provide better training and a functioning system.

There is definitely still a lot of work to do this year, and it can occasionally feel like we’re all in way over our heads. That said though, I am incredibly proud of the work we’ve started as a team this year and know we’ll all have achieved amazing things for the benefit of students by the end of it!
