Shorinji Kempo

Category: Sports

Shorinji Kempo is a modern Japanese martial art, focusing on self-defence, physical, and mental well-being. It is designed to subdue any attacker by using their own momentum and pressure points, meaning it does not rely on your strength or size to be effective.

Every week we learn both striking (punches, kicks, hits to pressure points) and throwing techniques (grab release, takedowns, etc.). We practice in a variety of forms: single-form, pair-form, free-form sparring, and choreographed movements (kata or embu). We also meditate every session.

We are part of the British Shorinji Kempo Federation (BSKF). Join us to be part of the friendly, close-knit, and supportive UK Kempo community and make great friends! We heavily encourage you to connect with the BSKF community, so we subsidise 50% of the cost of your first grading regardless of the outcome!

Our training sessions are in the Union Gym, Wednesdays 5pm-7pm and Saturdays 10am-12pm. We are very beginner-friendly and welcoming - simply show up at our training in comfortable clothes, and you're good to go!
