Dr. Sandra Vaiciulyte presents: When Disaster Strikes: Human Responses to Wildfires and Evacuation in the South of France and Australia

Sandra is an interdisciplinary researcher working in fire safety research within Arup Fire team in London and has a PhD in Human Behaviour and Urban Wildfire Evacuation from the Fire Safety Engineering Group (FSEG) at the University of Greenwich. The wildfires occurring globally are putting people’s safety at risk and the subject has received substantial attention, including studies of human behaviour in response to wildfire evacuations in regions such as Australia and the USA. However, populations in Europe have received less attention, despite facing the same issues. In this presentation Sandra will identify, quantify, and contextualise the aspects of individual behaviour in response to wildfire in Wildland-Urban Interface/Intermix (WUI) in South of France and Australia.
