Recently, when my flatmate challenged me on why most of my poetry and spoken word revolves around struggle and pain, I explained that poetry, for me, is about exploring nuance; there’s often less complexity in positive emotions like happiness. That conversation sparked a realisation,  I wanted to challenge myself to explore the nuanced strength, culture, and excellence within Black history as well. Whilst Black history undeniably encompasses pain, captivity, and oppression, but it also speaks to resilience and triumph.

Oh, what a week it’s been!

Last week, we welcomed all of you (back) to Imperial with a full week of fun, friendly faces, and of course, freebies.

Welcome Fair is always one of my favourite days during Welcome Week.

From the hustle and bustle of all 300+ of our stalls to learning about our student groups and the exhilarating things they do, it’s safe to say the rain did not dampen our Welcome Week spirit! Going from a busy day at Welcome Fair to an even busier night at Hello Heaven was certainly one of the most exciting days I had.

As we farewell two of our amazing 2023/24 OTs, Yi and Andreea, we also welcome two new fresh and friendly faces to the team for 2024/25! Please give a warm welcome to Emina and Nico as your two incoming officers for the year, joining our ongoing team from 2023/24 of Camille, Steph and Christian! 

Your 2023/24 academic year is coming to a close, and what a year it was! We hope you are all having a wonderful summer and enjoying a well-earned break.

Camille – Union President 2023/24, returning for 2024/25 

Hey presto – a year has passed. Getting to grips with the intricacies of our students’ union and College in a way foreign to me through my undergraduate years has been a gratifying challenge and I’m excited to build on this next year.   

Hi everyone, Camille here. I’ve been your Students’ Union President over the last academic year and I am delighted to have been re-elected for a second term for 2024-2025!  

As we head into a new academic year, I want to let you know about an exciting project that we’re kicking off this summer to make your students’ union better at representing you and your views - our Democracy Review!
