Bar Security Changes

Deputy President (Finance & Services)
Friday 4 June 2021 17:18

It is clear that over the past few years students have faced issues when it comes to the security contractors we were using at our bars. We would firstly like to apologise for not getting this right in the past - our number one priority is to ensure the safety of all students and we fell short of what you deserve.

We were recently made aware that our current security provider have gone bust, and so from Saturday 5th June they will no longer be working for us.

We have good news

Over the summer we will undertake a review of our security arrangements, with full student involvement, to ensure that we move forward with the right model to keep our students and guests safe, and enhance rather than diminish your night out. Over the coming months, we will be initiating a consultation with students around what you want the security used at our bars to look like and ensure that you are best supported when having fun in our bars.

What we'll do in the interim

From Saturday 5th June, we will be working with an alternative security provider who has a wealth of experience supporting student bars as well as ~60 Wetherspoons locations. They clearly demonstrated a priority to keep our students safe and we will ensure this is reflected in the personnel they provide.

This arrangement is on a temporary basis, and will be reviewed regularly to ensure they stand up to our values.

If you have any comments, suggestions, or would like to highlight willingness to be involved in any student consultation, please email dpfs@imperial.ac.uk.
