As my year as Deputy President (Clubs and Societies) comes to a close, I have been reflecting on how much has changed in the past year. When I came into the role, COVID restrictions and the changes to them defined society activity. Now, we are pretty much back to normal – and I’d like to think this normal looks better than before.
The three things I am most proud of are:
- Supporting and advising the activities team on reshaping their activities and the processes involved. So many of the processes were clunky and challenging, and this was having a huge impact on groups being able to successfully run their activities. Now, the team are empowered to make processes that work for them and the students. This has also been helped by the expansion of the team, which I supported through interviewing and selecting the new staff.
- Ensuring our Sporting provision serves all clubs and making changes to the Imperial Athletes model to do this. The existing model didn’t empower students to run their own clubs as much as it could have, and I am proud of all the work I and the rest of the union put in to change this.
- How CSPB has run this year – facilitating open discussion about what is going on in the Union, making sure that budgeting is completed as clearly and as fairly as possible.
I hope students are already feeling the impact of the changes we have made over the last year to CSP operations. There has been so much change this year, and as well as celebrating the change, I want to thank all the students for bearing with me and the team as we found our feet in a post-COVID world.
I’ll also take this space to congratulate all our student groups on their amazing events this year – coming back after COVID can’t have been easy but there have been tons of truly impressive events and activities through the year.
